When it comes to travel and leisure, most people can't wait to take a trip. The anticipation of an upcoming vacation can get you through your everyday routine with joy. Although vacations are a highlight of many peoples lives, stress can be attached to the planning of such an event. This can be triggered while establishing a budget, choosing a date and time to travel, choosing a destination pleasing to all in the traveling party, and deciding on a means of transportation and lodging. Whether you are traveling for vacation, business, or to visit relatives, there are several things you can do to alleviate the amount of stress you will experience on your next trip.
Plan Ahead
When making your reservations, try to travel at off-peak times. This will help you avoid crowds in and around the airport. The best travel dates are Tuesday-Thursday. These days come with an added bonus in that they usually cost less. Traveling during mid-morning, or late afternoon, will also alleviate the amount of stress you may experience. Since most people try to take off first thing in the morning, these flights are usually less crowded. Additionally, you will avoid some of the commute traffic upon reaching your destination. Finally, make sure you choose a seating arrangement that is preferable to you, i.e. window or aisle.
Pack Smart
Make a list of things you'll need ahead of time. As you pack, check off the list to make sure you've included everything you want. Pack a couple of days ahead of time. This will allow you to include things you may have forgotten and alleviate the stress of rushing. When traveling by air, remember to pack a separate carry-on bag containing all the essentials and an extra change of clothing in case your luggage is delayed. Keep all unnecessary items in your checked baggage to avoid holdups during security check points. Finally, check with your airline for requirements of acceptable items allowed in carry-on bags.
Dress For Comfort
When traveling, most days can be long and tiring. Therefore, it is important to make sure you are dressed in comfortable clothing and shoes. You should be able to move freely in your clothing, and your shoes should be easy to remove to make security check points less stressfull.
Travel Day
Before leaving home, check for any possible airline delays on your airline website of by phone. If traveling by car, check traffic reports for possible accidents or delays. Confirm any transportation arrangements to and from the airport, and verify your hotel reservations to make sure no issues have occurred. Finally, arrive early. Allow time to park, check bags, and go through security. Bring a book to read or music to listen to while waiting to board your flight.
Vacation is all about fun and relaxation. So, don't let the planning of one ruin the anticipation of a fabulous time to come.
